Mansday Wednesday: Monster Mouth Snacks

Believe it or not, today will be the first day that we have R after school. We share time with him, and the days have just fallen on non-school days. I am so excited to get all 3 in the car rider line today! When I saw him this morning in the cafeteria…

Just an aside: our school offers universal free breakfast for all students. I can’t tell you how awesome this is! The school more or less told parents,”Don’t feed your kids breakfast, we’ve got this!” As I have said numerous times before, our community is a small rural one with many families who simply cannot afford the essentials. How wonderful it must feel for them to know that their children are being fed a balanced meal to begin their day. I’m interested to see the correlation between readily available breakfast for all students and test/performance scores. Ok enough teacher talk… back to the post.

So when I saw R in the cafeteria, he was all smiles and I can’t wait to hear about his day and help him with his homework. And because he missed several back-to-school activities, I decided to make them a special after school snack that he is sure to love: Monster Mouths. I found them on Pinterest of course. Here are the links:

These were found on a ton of Halloween pin boards, but I wanted something that involved apples because my kids are loving them right now. They are also E.X.T.R.E.M.E.L.Y. hungry when they get home. I swear they could eat a 12 oz Ribeye and a 1/2 pound cheeseburger and they are 4 year old girls. My guess is that R is going to be as hungry or even more so. We are really in trouble when the teen years roll around. I better get to work on that food truck I’m going to need to run to both support our grocery bill and feed them. Anyways, what I love about this snack is that it is healthy and fun. Peanut Butter is great for energy and making them feel full yet sweet and tasty to satisfy a sweet tooth. The pin used yogurt-covered raisins and I chose mini marshmallows instead. Check out the final product!

And the success! Pin Approved!
